Planning Your Event Music
A straightforward guide to what goes into a live music quote, how to think about live music versus a DJ, and an option that gives you the best of both.
What Affects the Cost of Live Music for Your Event
Every event is unique, and a live music quote reflects the specific combination of factors that make yours what it is. Understanding what goes into the number helps you make informed decisions — and helps us put together a recommendation that genuinely fits.
-
Date Demand
Peak wedding season runs May through October. The holiday corporate season fills November and December. Saturday evenings during these months command premium pricing because demand is highest and availability is most limited. Midweek events and off-season dates are more affordable simply because the calendar is more open. You can see how date demand varies throughout the year on the Date Demand Calendar.

What You're Actually Paying For
Here's something most people don't expect to hear from a musician: the music is free. What you're paying for is the commitment — holding your date exclusively, the logistics and administration of coordinating with your venue and planner, travel, setup, and the professional reliability of having everything handled. Whether you need two minutes of processional music or three hours of cocktail and dinner atmosphere, the core investment is similar because the preparation and commitment are the same. Beyond that window, additional time is quoted separately.
-
Ensemble Size
Solo Spanish guitar is the most accessible option and creates a beautifully intimate atmosphere. Adding a second guitarist introduces the element of musical conversation — two instruments responding to each other, trading phrases, building energy together. That interplay is especially effective during cocktail hours, where the musical conversation helps facilitate the real ones: families meeting for the first time, old friends reconnecting, guests settling into the warmth of the occasion. A trio — two guitars and percussion — fills larger spaces with energy and presence. Each musician you add is a professional whose time, talent, and preparation you're compensating, and the investment reflects that.
-
Travel and Logistics
Events within the Bay Area core are straightforward. Wine country, Carmel, Tahoe, or other destinations may involve travel time and logistics that factor into the quote. We're transparent about this — if travel adds to the cost, we'll explain exactly why.
-
Season and Day of Week
Weekends during peak season are the highest demand slots — Saturdays especially, but Fridays and Sundays book quickly too. Midweek events (Monday through Wednesday) are where you'll find the most flexibility on both availability and pricing. The Date Demand Calendar shows exactly how demand shifts throughout the year.
-
Custom Arrangements
Most performances draw from an extensive existing repertoire that spans flamenco, rumba, bossa nova, classical, and popular favorites already arranged for Spanish guitar. If you'd like a specific song arranged in the Spanish guitar style — a processional piece, a first dance, or a meaningful personal selection — that preparation time is factored into the quote.
The goal is never to surprise you with a number. It's to build a quote that reflects exactly what your event needs, so you understand what you're getting and why.
Live Music, DJ, or Both?
This is one of the most common conversations we have with couples and event planners. You love the idea of live music — the warmth, the elegance, the way it makes a ceremony or cocktail hour feel genuinely special. But you also want your friends on the dance floor later, moving to familiar songs they know and love.
The traditional answer is to choose one or the other. Live music creates atmosphere and emotional connection that a playlist simply cannot match. A guitarist playing during your ceremony, making eye contact with guests, responding to the energy of the room — that's a living, breathing experience. But a DJ offers variety, volume, and a catalog of familiar tracks that get people dancing.
Most people assume they have to pick a side, or pay for both.
There's a third option. We offer something most musicians don't — after the live performance ends, Daniel stays and plays your curated playlist through professional-grade speakers. Your guests get the warmth of live Spanish guitar during the ceremony and cocktail hour, then transition seamlessly into their favorite dance tracks for the reception.
You get both experiences without booking two separate vendors. The transition is smooth because the same person managing the live set is managing the playlist — there's no awkward handoff, no gap in the music, no second setup to coordinate with your venue.
This isn't a gimmick. It's a practical solution that saves you the cost and complexity of hiring a band and a DJ separately, while giving your guests a complete musical experience from first arrival to last dance.
